Over the last year I have been working on my first memoir Bright Lights and Breakdowns under the amazing guidance of Jacqui Lofthouse founder of The Writing Coach and Author of The Modigliani Girl. We worked together to help me finish my first complete draft of the manuscript. Now, is the rewriting and editing phase. The hardest and most crucial part in my opinion. It’s been a long road to get even this far, but I’m not quite finished just yet.
I guess you can say technically I’ve been writing this book since 2014. It started off as a way of documenting my distant past and getting all the crap out of my system. I took a hiatus for a year and then when things in my life settled I came back and ordered things into the story I have today, all in all it’s been a very cathartic experience.
I can’t wait to share it with you all. For those of you who would like to know a little more I did quite a candid interview for The Drummers Journal about the successes and failures in my career. The feedback I got from that was so positive, off the back of it interview I was invited to be part of a talk at Leeds College of Music for the sounds Like Human Festival. We looked at how we can make a smoother transition for students from uni life into the working world of music. Because at present, it’s quite a daunting and uncertain process.
There will be more updates on my book on my other site so stay tuned as I hope to push things from July onwards. I might write some posts on the actual process of writing for me as a self-taught writer, in the hope of inspiring other to get their thoughts down and out into the world. The more I talk to people the more I realise there’s a story in almost all of us.
